Parishioners arriving for the 10 am worship service Sunday, October 22 were treated to the distinctive, melodious tones of a Knabe baby grand piano being masterfully played by Choir Director Dave Dawson. And as part of the service they witnessed a thankful acknowledgement of the gift of music bestowed on the Parish thanks to the Ursel family’s donation of this singularly impressive instrument.
For those among us unfamiliar with grand pianos it helps to know that these limited production, handmade Knabe pianos are renowned for their rich, tonal quality, endorsed by the likes of former Met Opera Director Rudolf Bing and often described as the nearest approach to the human singing voice. Then too there is the superior detail that goes into their creation that is backed by 300 years of craftsmanship. For his part, Lorne Ursel, a longtime friend of St Martin’s is pleased and happy knowing his baby grand has found a fine, loving home.
