St Martin’s Parish Dinner on Saturday, September 23 featured a choral evensong worship service followed by a delicious meal that was prepared and served by the Team from The Well/La Source in a setting made especially nice thanks to the hall setup by Simon West as part of St Martin’s younger crew.
Entertainment included recitations by St Martin’s gifted tenor Drew Isaac and a lively post-dinner sing along led by Choir Director David Dawson. Who knew a familiar psalm could have so many different joyful tunes. The toast raised by Peoples Warden Fiona Hills paid tribute to St Martin’s impressive past and fine days ahead that by any measure will be in keeping with the individual dedication and service recognized and honoured as a highlight of the evening’s proceedings. A round of heartfelt applause greeted each of the four glowing citations read by Master of Ceremonies, Ian Marsh, respectively for Janet Thompson, Sid and Grace Squires, Tony and Rita Myres, Bob and Jean Ellis. Father John’s thoughtful benediction capped an evening whose warmth was matched by that of a summer reluctant to leave.
