St. Martin’s is blessed to have Joseph Varkey serving his priestly Ministry with this parish under the Reverend John Organ. In many respects, Joseph is a living example of faith in action. He came to Canada a little over two years ago in 2013 from the southern part of India. Not surprisingly, he had a slew of questions about how he was going to get through the winter, pick up the language and mingle with people, other cultures and lifestyles. As he tells it:
“When I was moving out from India to Canada I had no clue, or no idea what plan God has for me; but, I simply trusted and prayed, ‘Lord be my friend, be my guide and show me the right path’ The spirit of the Lord lead me to the Anglican Church and to the Diocese of Ottawa.”
Joseph comes from a Catholic background. He was ordained a priest in the Roman Catholic Church in 2006. At the end of October 2015, he was received as a Priest in the Anglican Church of Canada here in the Diocese of Ottawa. Having immersed himself in learning about Anglican theology, liturgy and history what especially impressed and moved him was the simplicity and ease with which Bishop Chapman interacted with people and spoke to them. On being accepted and received as an Anglican Priest Joseph says it is a wonderful journey and a wonderful plan for him. And for St Martin’s a wonderful opportunity to figure in that plan.
By profession Joseph is a trained and accredited social worker presently doing psychotherapy-counselling sessions for individuals, groups, families and young people. He brings to both his professional and priestly life a wealth of experience and credentials. To hear Reverend Joseph Varkey in his own words visit this link on the Diocese website.
